Year of the Nurse

In honor of Florence Nightingale’s 200th birth anniversary, 2020 was designated as the International Year of the Nurse by The World Health Assembly. This initiative celebrated nurses, highlighted their challenges, and advocated for increased investments in the nursing and midwifery workforce.

This badge was commisioned by the HSE to honor the tireless work nurses do on a daily basis. The design consists of two interlocking hearts, forming the letter N for nurse, symbolizing the indispensable qualities of cooperation, perseverance, and stamina intrinsic to the nursing profession. While the hand-rendered style for the mark subtly alludes to the caring and compassionate nature of this vocation. As a heartfelt tribute, this badge is dedicated to my mother, a dedicated nurse of nearly three decades, embodying the unwavering commitment of nurses worldwide.
